Drop In Surf Shop (Supporting Local)

Finaddicts has always been about standing up for locally owned businesses. Not because it’s trendy, not because it looks good on social media, but because without them, there is no Finaddicts.

When I started Finaddicts, nobody knew who we were. We had nothing. All we had were mom and pop surf shops, bait & tackle shops, and locally owned retailers who took a chance on us when they had absolutely no reason to.

That’s how real businesses are created, that’s how they survive. It all starts with the little guys giving the little guy a shot.

Today, one of those businesses needs our help.

Drop In Surf Shop has been a part of North Topsail Beach for the last 10 years. Danny & April Woodruff didn’t just open a surf shop. They poured their blood, sweat, and tears into building something that has become a part of the community. Their kids go to school here. They live here. They aren’t just some corporation that sees this area as another economic opportunity zone, or a zip code on a spreadsheet that they can squeeze money out of.

This is their home.

Right now they're living through every local business owner's worst nightmare. A new landlord has taken over the property and is trying to force them out. They've already had to close their ice cream business, and they've even been locked out of their own store despite continuing to pay rent, doing everything they've been asked to do, and complying with all the new requirements.

To have your life's work stripped from you in a moment's notice by an external force that you have no control over is a devastating tragedy no one should have to experience. And something I can’t even imagine how it feels.

Danny & April gave Finaddicts a chance years ago when it was still trying to find it’s footing. They've supported us from the beginning, and we've been fortunate enough to work together over the years.

I'll never forget that.

The truth is. Without local stores, without people who care, and without people willing to take a chance on the little guy. There is no Finaddicts. There is no culture. There is no character.

Beach towns don't become special because of another chain store. They become special because of the people crazy enough to bet everything they have on opening a business that actually represents and serves the community. That provides jobs to local people. Donates to local causes. Sponsors local events and your kids rec team. And actually care about the place that they live and work.

So, at the very least. Please share this post.

If you’re able to, stop by Drop In, say hello, and buy something from them while they are going through a tough time, because they don’t know what is coming next.

Danny hand designs all their logos and artwork, and they have some of the coolest clothing available right now.

If you know of a retail space anywhere around North Topsail or Sneads Ferry, please reach out to them. They're preparing for the absolute worst, and maybe, just maybe, the next chapter of their story starts because someone reading this knows somebody.

Supporting local isn’t something you say when it’s easy and trendy. It’s something you do when one of your own needs you.
